These Terms of Use govern the operation and access of all cameras provided and managed by the UK Safety Camera Network (“USCN”). By either hosting one of our cameras or interacting with a space monitored by one of our cameras, you agree to these terms.

Section 1: Terms for Camera Hosts

By hosting a camera provided by the UK Safety Camera Network, you agree to the following:

1. Camera Installation and Legal Compliance
You agree to allow us to install, monitor, and maintain one or more CCTV cameras on your property.

Cameras are provided and installed free of charge.

All legal responsibilities, including DPIAs, privacy masking, signage, and lawful data handling, are handled by the UK Safety Camera Network.

2. Security and Access Control
We will set up secure role-based access for the camera(s), with logging for all user actions.

You may not tamper with or alter the physical or digital setup of the camera(s) in any way.

This includes but is not limited to:

Physically touching, removing, or repositioning the camera

Attempting to access or remove the SD card

Logging into an account that is not assigned to you

Accessing or attempting to bypass privacy masking settings

Altering any digital configuration (e.g. recording settings, network settings)

3. Adding or Removing Access
If additional access is required for someone else (e.g., staff member or property manager), you must contact us. We will create a unique login for that person.

You are responsible for informing us when that person no longer requires access so we can disable their account.

Tampering with or modifying any part of the system, physically or digitally, without our prior written consent is a breach of these terms and may result in restriction or removal of the equipment.

Section 2: Terms for the General Public

If you walk through or appear in an area covered by one of our cameras, the following terms apply:

1. Purpose of Monitoring
Footage is recorded for the purposes of crime prevention and public safety only.

We do not use or share footage for commercial purposes.

2. Subject Access Requests (SARs)
If you believe you have been recorded and wish to access footage of yourself, you may submit a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR).

To process your request, you must provide:

A clear description of the time, date, and location

Valid photographic ID to verify your identity

Once verified, we will:

Check whether you are present in the footage

If not present, inform you accordingly

If present and no other people are visible, we will provide the unedited footage

If other people are present, we will apply blurring/redaction before providing a copy

Your ID will be securely deleted after verification and will not be retained.

3. Footage Removal Requests
We do not delete footage simply upon request unless required by law.

This is to preserve the integrity of our public safety purpose and ensure potential evidence is retained.

4. Data Retention
Footage is stored for a maximum of 31 days or until local storage becomes full, whichever comes sooner.

All footage is stored securely and is automatically deleted once it exceeds the retention period.
